• Sourashtra, one of the ancient living languages of Bhaarada Kutumbakam (India), spoken by a community of people migrated from the north-western region of Bharada Kandam (Indian Peninsular region) to southern region such as andhra pradesham (Andhra Pradesh), karnaataka and Tamilnadu. As on date, around 15 lakhs* sourashtra community people are spread across the globe with a dense population in various cities of Tamilnadu like Madurai, Chennai, etc. Writing system for Sourashtra language developed around 1800 due to the hardwork and vision of Sourashtra Literary Laurels Srii Varakavi Venakatsuuri Swamin, Pandita Chatruvedhi Lakshmanaachaaryaar. Later to suit the printing requirements, T.M. Rama Rai refined the script. Due to the development of Unicode for Sourashtra language and Sourashtra trans-literary software, learning Sourashtra through internet has been realized. As the lessons are based on rOman characters familiarization of Sourashtra with roman letters/character has been provided in a lucid form.

apavitra pavitrO vaa,
ꢱꢬ꣄ꢮꢵꢮꢱ꣄ꢡꢵꢥ꣄ ꢒ꣄ꢣꣂꢦꢶ ꢮꢵ,
sarvaavastaan kadOpi vaa,
ꢫꢰ꣄ꢪꢬꢿꢣ꣄ ꢦꢸꢠ꣄ꢞꢬꢷꢒꢵꢒ꣄ꢰꢪ꣄
yasmarEd pundariikaKSham

sabhakyaan abiyantara suchi hii||

Translation:Let us prepare ourselves by purifying (pavitra) from impure (apavitra), by removing all the stresses / hindrance for learning through submitting one self to the divine.

Prayer

Learning starts with preparation followed by prayer, Lord Sarvagna (Ganesha) is the first and foremost divine being to drive us in right direction.

Prayer 'aindhu karaththinai' written by Thirumuular in Tamil has been translated is Sourashtra with English trans-literate is provided below. This is the first article in the first issue of Vishwa Sourashtram - First Interanational Journal in Sourashtra Language.
